Challenge

At Gnosis we have developed an open-source conditional token framework, designed to enable futarchy; governance by prediction markets.

For DAOs, this means using prediction markets to make or inform organizational decisions.

Why is that a good thing?

Because prediction markets are one of the best mechanisms for attracting serious, considered and quantified thought about the impact of future events.

For example, rather than voting on a proposal like “should, we fund project x?”, a DAO could base its funding on a question more like “if we fund project x, will our share price be higher than $500 by October 2020?”

In the former, the DAO makes decisions based on its member's preferences, while in the latter, the DAO uses the predictive power of conditional tokens to make the decisions that will best impact the organization.

To have a chance of winning this challenge, use the Conditional Tokens Framework to build something that helps DAOs make decisions. To be eligible, your app must ask questions that have at least two conditions -- think “if this, then that”.

Not sure what to build? Here are some ideas you can run with.
Automatically create a prediction market for each proposal in a Moloch DAO; “if proposal x passes, will the share price go up by y or more before t?”.

  • Members of the DAO can then use this information to help guide their vote.

  • Create an extension for the Colony contracts that use's Futarchy to make payments only if their predicted ROI is greater than some threshold; “if x payment is made, will it return more than y to the colony before t?”.

Submission Requirements

Use the conditional token framework.
Application, at a minimum, must facilitate the creation or transfer of positions which are derived from no less than two conditions.

Judging Criteria

The submission will be judged by the Gnosis Team based on the application’s ability to help DAOs make decisions by leveraging the conditional token framework. Please submit your work with:

  • A brief youtube video demo-ing your hackathon project.
  • Link to a URL where the project is hosted
  • Link to projects Github.

Other factors include:

  • Usefulness of application
  • Completeness of application
  • Creativity, make something that is different and better than what exists
  • Level of integration with an existing DAO or DAO framework (such as Aragon, Colony, DAOstack, or Moloch)
  • Code Quality as measured by simplicity, originality and clarity.
