Event from PD to CP is not working

Hi All,

Thanks for great work. I try to sent event from PD (ATTiny3224) to CP (ESP32-WROOM32). I have no ERROR but the event will not be sent. I am using Platformio. Commands from CP to PD are working. Also RS485 communication is working on both sides. Can you please help me solve the problem ? Thank you for yours time.

@MarosMotaj, the code snippets you have posted here is not enough to understand what might be going wrong. Can you post the entire code? if not, please setup a minimized but fully contained code.

Also posting the full logs would be helpful.

Hi, I changed ATtiny3224 to ESP32-WROOM32, and here are the LOG msg after start:

Okay, I think the issue is with the way you switch the RS485 transceiver direction in the event delivery method. When you notify the event, they are not directly sent to the CP but queued to be delivered at a later time. So the direction switches have to be entirely within the send/receive functions which are called when the library is ready to read/write data.

If I use "pd.flush_events()" in "send_button_event(...)" method the error disappears, but no event is send to CP. When the event is send ? It is send automatically after "cp.refresh()" call method in CP main loop?

The events are sent out the next time the CP sends a POLL command. This happens when you call the refresh method but there is no 1-1 correlation between those actions — so best is to not rely on it.

The event queue depth is only 4. So if there was something else that got into the queue before this event (or more such button press event) then you can exhaust the queue easily and hit this issue. Ensure the CP is alive and well when you queue the event.

Ok, the error appears after 3 times button is press so I use "pd.flush_events();" after "send_button_event(pd, 0x30);" and the error disappears :) but CP display no event. I use this method in CP:

@MarosMotaj After a fair bit of thought, I think this has to be something related to your setup and not a LibOSDP bug. I am relying on the tests that cover this specific case to make that claim.

So the best I can do here is to give you suggestions to debug the issue:

• Isolate the problem
  • run a python CP program to interact with your PD directly connected using a USB-UART adapter
  • also, try to run a python PD program to debug your CP
• Try adding logs in LibOSDP code to understand the flow
• Turn-on packet capture on the python CP and share the caputre file here for further analysis

I use logic analyzer for debug and I find that CP send msg to PD and PD response to CP but the response is not delivered to CP. Problem is on MAX485 CPs module. I think the switching between transmitt and receive mode on CP side is not good set. I will check it.

After some play with delays the communication starts working but not very smooth. I can now send command to PD and event to CP.
