respectGitIgnore not working?

I have some dirs in .gitignore and I tried to put in the gemini\settings.json the config to disregard the .gitignore, but it still does not show those files to me when I try to reference them with @

I know the settings.json is being loaded because i can see the theme change when I change that value, but I cannot for the life of me get it to show me those files and dirs that are listed in my .gitignore

What might I be missing

Same here (on a Mac). Doesn't work, files are still filtered (out).
