Hi Everyone! 👋
I'm Muhammed Naif (@1nonlyasta), and I've been actively contributing to the Gemini CLI performance suite. I want to share that I have now fully implemented the foundational Performance Monitoring Dashboard (/perf).
The implementation is complete with:
📊 Real-time Metrics: Aggregation of model API latency, token consumption, and memory usage.
⚖️ Baseline System: A solid foundation for performance regression detection.
📝 Export Utilities: Generating structured JSON and Markdown reports.
I'd love to get feedback from the maintainers on the current implementation of /perf!
Regarding GSoC 2026, I saw the update to the Ideas List and I've drafted a proposal to take these performance tools to the next level by building a comprehensive Advanced Observability Suite.
My proposed goals include:
🚀 Hierarchical Execution Tracing: Real-time visualization of tool-calling chains.
⚖️ Automated Regression Analytics: Moving from static baselines to historical trend analysis across sessions.
🔌 Telemetry Plugins: Exporting data to industry-standard tools like Prometheus/Grafana.
💻 IDE Companion Integration: Bringing performance heatmaps directly into the VS Code extension.
I'm incredibly excited about where this project is going, especially as agentic workflows become more complex. I'd love to get feedback on this direction!
CC: @sehoon38 (I've been following your work on the core systems—would love to chat more about the telemetry architecture for GSoC!)
Looking forward to a productive summer! 🚀
