Gemini CLI quota depletion over the past few days?

Hi all,

Has anyone had suspiciously fast depletion of their free quota over the last few days?

I use the flash models for a few simple tasks every day and never get anywhere near 30-40% of the daily quota but yesterday I maxed it out for the first time ever.

This morning, I only went through plan mode and did one medium task and my new daily 100% quota was down to 1%. Throughout the process I was looking at /stats in another terminal and the numbers were all over the place - going down and up (!) at times.

Is something broken? I don't want to add this as an issue as I'll have no real data until I can try again tomorrow.

Or have Google dropped the free quota a lot this week?

Today I've reached the limit on gemini-3-flash-preview with 25 requests.

I've been using gemini-3-flash-preview a lot (thanks gemini-cli!) until today. It was pretty fast and I never hit the daily limit.

I guess gemini-3.1-flash-lite-preview has been added with a high quota and gemini-3-flash-preview's quota has been lowered (there's a recent Reddit post about this update).

Thanks. I just found that. It's true - there's a new model and it seems like there's a lot of quota for it.
The only problem is, after playing with it for 20 minutes now, I can't get it to do very simple tasks! Is it supposed to be an upgrade? It's terrible!

Google needs to be transparent about which models the 1000 requests-per-day limit applies to, and specifically how limits are upgraded for Pro, and Ultra tiers.
If an Pro / Ultra subscription only increases the quota for Gemini 3 Flash LITE (a lighter model), it is like paying primary school student for work.
The Lite model is, shamefully, unusable.
