Are there any plans for a reliable open sourced gemini model that can be used locally indefinitely with same quality of closed source models?

I am sure many people would like an open sourced model (gemini-open-model ?) from Google even if it is slower than using the online closed source versions as long as still as high in quality output.

Then just let people pay for speed, ease of use, and rate limits with online closed sourced models.

With an open sourced gemini model I am sure the community will find and fix many problems quickly to actually improve the gemini models outside of what the masses of non developers use gemini for.

Does anyone agree they would like an open sourced gemini model, and just pay for speed and ease of use of closed gemini models?

Is there a problem I am not seeing why google has not done so?

Is Gemma 4 the answer? Anyone want to share how they are using Gemma 4 with Gemini CLI? The results being produced?
