Does anyone know if there is a way of disabling memory?

I use Gemini CLI across multiple different client projects, so I want to disable memory as it becomes auto populated with a mix of information from different projects.

Is there a way I can do this such as a flag in a settings file? I can't find anything in the native /settings to achieve this.

Note I am not asking how to delete the memory - this I know how to do by locating the .GEMINI file in the gemini folder. I would like to disable the memory recording feature,

A short answer is: I don’t think there is currently a documented switch to fully disable Gemini CLI memory recording. The current docs describe memory as the save_memory tool writing to ~/.gemini/GEMINI.md, and the configuration/settings docs I could find expose controls for memory discovery/loading behavior such as context.discoveryMaxDirs and context.loadMemoryFromIncludeDirectories, but not a setting to turn the memory feature off entirely. So the practical answer seems to be:

• there is no documented “disable memory” flag right now
• you can delete or edit the GEMINI.md memory file manually
• you may be able to reduce project-memory loading behavior with context settings, but that is not the same as disabling memory recording. ([Google Gemini]1)

There are also open feature requests around more flexible/per-session memory file handling, which suggests this is a known limitation rather than something you just missed in settings. ([github.com]2)
