Kinda crazy why anybody would wish so, but e.g. in Termux it is useful, as longer sessions with live updates (e.g. transcription of audio files, live) seem to freeze the node terminal of Gemini. See e.g. here: #2623. (Update: yes, the idea and thus other implementations are quite popular...)

Oh! 😱 Just today I had a bad case of Termux fit of scrolling, even Ctrl + L → Clear did not help. Perennial problem, even as of now, random href: #3959 (comment)

I have set up ... Gemini CLI on it! It is working like a bulldog off the plan it has created out of ... this Issue and the other one in short. And the Gemini Flash cousin. Amazing :

✦ I've completed the GEMINI_ADAPTATION_PLAN.md implementation, including creating AI provider interfaces and implementations, refactoring Claude interaction, adding CLI arguments, and

Update:

One can just run it in X11, ssh etc natively in many clients, without coding! The below, X11 amd xcfe4-terminal, solves also the scrolling issues, see #2623 (comment):

Even better! Scrolling problems also gone while many Termux GUI operations instantly more responsive, plus dozens of bells and whistles (keyboard and snippets mostly):

In short:

• E.g. Termius SSH client, but any will do, I guess
• From the ssh client 📲 we "just" do this to same device:

Plan A:

• Termius is a normal SSH client. It uses its own built-in OpenSSH binary.

✅ So the correct way with Termius:
1️⃣ Make sure Termux’s sshd is running.

pkg install openssh
sshd -p 8022

2️⃣ In Termius, create a new host:

• Host: 127.0.0.1
• Port: 8022
• Username: u0_a278
• Password:
• Optionally disable Host Key Checking if you want no prompt.

3️⃣ Connect.

🔑 TL;DR
Termius → localhost:8022 → u0_a278 → password.

Plan B:

(Yes, you should know what it does to use it. And yes you should have done the legwork to turn to the root user here for a millisecond: the "su is ok on my Droid" bit). Termux (or whatever you may have as the post sshd initialization script there) should now start.

• gemini of course: and now even that other AI on top of Gemini AI glory 💐 (see the pic)! No scrolling issues either, tested on the saved long sessions that had scrolling issues on regular Termux.
