Read/Write files outside workspace

I don't understand the complete restriction of reading!!! and writing files outside the working directory. Personally, we use a number of *.md files in an extra "memory" directory. That way I would have to move the entire package to each extra project and duplicate the entire *.md document structure when using it. It is possible to work around this via the terminal, but why?

I suggest that this restriction could be turned off, if you really consider it a form of security for those who don't know what they're doing. Although I don't think reading can be any risk and could be enabled by default.
