What happened?

Even with Yolo mode on and no sandbox, it says " Path must be within one of the workspace directories:" complaining that it can't access folders outside of the project directory. I am trying to have it install stuff, it tries to add something to PATH, but it can't use 'dir' to find the path to find the version number, so it stalls out telling me to go get the path myself. with no sandbox and yolo mode, it should have unrestricted access to all of my drive. My windows installation is expendable there is nothing to lose.

What did you expect to happen?

I expected YOLO and No sandbox to have full control

I wonder what the design intention is to not allow certain folders.

Are we supposed to copy all resources we might want to use, to ALL projects?

Hi @RandomTurtle and @pschiel, this is working as intended. When you launch the CLI inside a directory, it only has read and write access to that directory and nothing outside of it.

If you would like to grant access to another directory, you can permanently add it to includeDirectories in your ~/.gemini/settings.json or use the /directory add for the current session. This is a precaution to ensure the model doesn't accidentally edit or read files it shouldn't.
