cross compile static gtest from x86_64 to aarch64 using cmake or bazel

Hello,
How can I cross-compile googletest for aarch64? I prefer gmake, but seems cmake is the easier(?) choice. I am willing to try bazel too but there seems to be absolutely no info on how to accomplish the cross-compile by any method.

Any help is appreciated!
BTW, I saw the 'discussion' about cross-compile from several years ago but it was no help.
