2023 - is this Project Dead?

Is this project being actively maintained, is it being archived, has google created some newer, better alternative?

I may be able to contribute if the project could use some community work. But it would be nice to know the official status of this project, as the README seems to be out of date and on M1 Mac Monterey with node v20.3.0 the install command did not work and that issue does not appear to be resolved.
