DJV 3.1.1 not opening anymore

I was surprised just now when I wanted to see a render that I did in the past two hours, so I clicked on the DJV icon on the taskbar and nothing. That doesn't happen often, and never before with DJV, but very occasionally it happens with some other program at random, and every time it does, a reboot solves it. This time a reboot didn't.

Keeping the Task Manager open, I see that every time I click to open it, DVJ appears for a split second and then vanishes. The weird thing is that I'm sure that yesterday I used it because I rendered another project and opened the EXR sequence in DJV as I normally do.

Anybody else having this problem? I know I did a Windows update a few days ago, but it was fine after that. Now Windows 11 wants me to update to 25H2, but I'm postponing that for a while until I know it's safe.

I also uninstalled DJV, downloaded it again from here (last version), and same thing happens. I don't know if it's any help, but I opened a Terminal in the path it's installed, ran it and got this:

Hi, sorry about that; could you try removing the DJV settings folder and starting it again? The folder is located in your Documents directory, 'Documents/DJV`.

Also try starting from the command line with the log enabled:

djv -log

Sorry, I'm still confused. When you say "command line", "terminal" and "command prompt", is that all the same thing? I downloaded "Terminal" from the Windows store, but that just opens as PowerShell.

When I try to use the command in PowerShell, it's saying 'djv' is not recognized.

No worries. Those three terms are more or less the same thing. In Windows 10 and earlier, the way to access the command line interface, or "CLI" (the program where you can type commands in text rather than using drag and drops or double clicks), is using a program called Command Prompt, but in Windows 11 Microsoft changed that to a program called Terminal, where you can choose which type of CLI you want when launched, and you can choose between the good old Command Prompt, Powershell, and other shells that don't matter unless you're into programming or are a very heavy user.

You said you're on Window 10, so in your case, just press the Windows logo button on your keyboard, and start typing cmd and it will show so you can press Enter and launch it.

Once you do, and you see the blinking cursor, copy and paste the next three commands. If you copy and paste all together it's fine, but it will give you a warning that you can disregard:

cd
cd Program Files\DJV 3.1.1\bin
djv -resetSettings

Press enter and you should see DJV 3.1.1 launch and show you first time setup dialog.

Thanks for the explanation Sebarius, but it's sadly still not working for me.

I can tell it's trying to do something because i can see a spinning wheel for 1 second. But nothing opens, and the cmd window doesn't tell me anything.
