LDAP Authentication without Sync

I have kind of a weird implementation. I have snipe setup using a custom script to add users / locations via the API, as well as sync assets into a list in OSTicket. The user data uploaded via the API matches the email / username to AD. We do it this way to customise the data that is added for user information, as well as elevate users t admin based on group memberships, add users to Snipe groups automatically etc..

My question is, is it possible to have SnipeIT authenticate against AD, without syncing and overwriting the info we upload? I only need the ldap authentication, however I am hesitant to switch it on incase a sync runs and ruins the data we upload.
