Backup to email

Having the ability to send a scheduled backup file via email would be really helpful

If you have it set up on a Linux machine could you not set up a Cron job backup and send?

Running this software already requires a level of experience with web servers, so I don't think that's exactly a fair argument.

Backing up to email isn't viable, as backups are usually too large to send via email. Receiving mail servers will reject the message because of size.

Ok perhaps some backups may be too big for email but I'll take a bet that the vast majority of people using it won't have a backup file big enough to worry about that limitation - ours is several thousand assets and is only a little bigger than 1MB.

Whilst setting Snipe up requires some comfortability with Linux, being able to set up via Docker Compose massively lowers barrier to entry for using the app (which is amazing) and, seeing as Snipe already has a working mail server, having the functionality in-app without pushing users out into Linux would be nice.

Backup is such an important part of maintaining and running any IT system and not having an easy way to get the backup file off the server really goes against that.

Either way, you're the experts so if not feasible no worries! Just thought it would be worth throwing it into the ideas pool

We host thousands of customers and not one of their backups would fit in an email. Remember most folks have images, signature PDFs, various uploaded files, etc and all of those get zipped up in that backup. Obviously backups are critical - that's why we provide them - but a much cleaner way to handle this is via API https://snipe-it.readme.io/reference/backupsdownloadfile

(I'm not at all saying it's a bad idea - it's not - it's just not really practical for most use-cases, and troubleshooting why those emails aren't getting through is a pretty significant burden, especially if we're dealing with folks who don't know servers well.)
