Webview loops and tries to reload continuously

If one were to use React native Linking or expo web browser and go to any link and click the x to get back to the app, the webview will go into a loop and try to reload the page continuously.

This happens in both the cases when pressing x as well as a link with a scheme like myapp://whatever , in both the cases I am able to replicate a reloading loop.

So far only tested in Android.

Any progress on this? Just upgraded to 1.7.8 and am getting the same loop.
