Research What Volunteers Want to See in Onboarding Videos

Overview

The research is to find out what parts of the onboarding deck volunteers would like to have made into videos so that they could have watched, or send it to a friend, etc. either prior to an onboarding or after. This will go on the website and supplement the onboarding slide deck.

• Review Example of Interview
• Review Onboarding deck
• Collaborate and brainstorm with team about what should be conveyed in the videos that will supplement the onboarding slide deck
• Create questions, script, and consent form (if you plan to record) for interviewing volunteers on what they'd like to see in the video
• Recruit interview participants. Find volunteers in all stages of HfLA volunteering process, including people who have been volunteering for awhile, new volunteers, and team leads. You can do so by posting on Slack
• Conduct interviews
• Analyze findings from interviews and bring information back to team to discuss
• Finalize list of topics that will go in the Hack for LA onboarding videos
• Submit list to Bonnie

I am currently waiting on Miro access to research the need for a Hack for LA/Code for America video since there is already one on the Events page. Once I find out any more information as to why this was brought up as an issue, I will update the team & Bonnie.

and it seems like we made all the changes that addressed the underlying issue when we added the about page and the new homepage that are about to launch.

However, I think that a series of videos could be made from the onboarding deck, so that people can get the information in bite size pieces when they want it. So the research would be to find out what parts of the onboarding deck they would like to have made into videos so that they could have watched, or send it to a friend, etc. either prior to an onboarding or after. But not as a prerequisite. Essentially in addition to the onboarding not instead of.
