My setup with HAEO

I just got HAEO going after struggling with emhass and array dimensionality issues making the result unresolvable. HAEO just works!

My setup is

• Melbourne Australia
• a 10kW Goodwe inverter (GW9.99K-EHB-AU-G11)
  • This inverter has a nice feature that it can do 15kW and share it between DC (battery) and AC (load + export).
• 38.4kWh batteries (Lynx F2)
• 15kW on the roof
• HAFO for load prediction (not tuned)
• Solcast for PV forecast
• Amber express for pricing data and forecast
• Custom modbus extension using local modbus gateway for goodwe registers not exposed via the standard integration
  • Easier to configure than modbus integration
  • use ha_modbusproxy to serialise the accesses to the inverter for the 2 clients.
• 1 single automation to control grid export
  • uses sensor.grid_export_power from the grid node to control it
  • negative sell price overrides this for curtailment
  • if HAEO does not want to export and the sun is shining and the sell price is > 0, then export any spare PV capacity to the 5kW limit.
  • if price is above a value ($0.20 for now) then export anyway as a price spike is occuring even if HAEO says not to.

• no deferable loads as yet.
• no grid import automation yet until I trust it.

Provided for interest is 24h of "live" optimisation.

Salient things to note:

• very short "runts" of export throughout the night. Seems a bit weird. They are quite narrow (< 1 minute)
• It drained the battery to my SOC stop before the sun came up. Current SOC stop is 6% and is inverter enforced. I had HAEO set to 10%

Something that will be fixed soon is that if your SOC of your battery drops below what you set for min in haeo, haeo actually stops working properly (since you've given it an impossible statement). So that means it can just get stuck on the last thing it was doing when it went to in your case 10%. So since haeo stopped running (you told it your current state is 6%, never go below 10% and its head exploded), it just stopped automating, so if your last command was a discharge command it'll just keep going.

Future versions will not crash and instead just make power below that point be "unappealing" for it to use.

Those little "runts" of export are likely it thinking that it has enough power to last until the sun rises based on the forecast and discharging until it trips the threshold where it's back to even. Although it's hard to be sure without the full diagnostics. Interesting to see it all visualised though!

Another thing Ive noticed is the battery charge power predictor

It is 2kW over the pv power available which just shouldn't be.

I'm currently tweaking the export algo in my script to use battery discharge power with grid export power. However even though the forecast says export but discharge power is zero at the current time but the forecast for discharge has a low level profile with presumably PV power making up the shortfall for the total requested export. Sort of PV sell first or battery charge first heuristics. But with discharge and charge power being not logical, this makes it hard.
I suspect there is a missing constraint somewhere but I'm still trying to figure out how it (haeo) hangs together.

As for SOC, it always goes below the haeo min set of 15%. At 6% this limit is enforced at the inverter level. I have now added a SOC limit in the script so it cant sell below that min level.

For the runts I have changed the debounce setting to 30 secs and as expected they have disappeared.
