No access frontend Web interface #2509

Hi !

As of this morning, I no longer have access to the frontend Transmission Haugene Web interface. I have "The connexion failed" error on my Web navigator (Firefox).
Yesterday the Web access was working fine.
I reboot my NAS server, and nothing change.
My system OS is OMV 6.
My others Docker containers works (Netdata, Jellyfin...).

I am at Hide My Ass as a VPN.

Best bet is to contact provider and ask them if configs need updating etc

Password is not accepted by server.. check that you set it correctly, expired etc?

I don't understand, because I checked and tested my credentials with the client application of my vpn under Windows and I can connect without issue.

Could something have changed on the side of my vpn provider ?

Today, I can start HMA locally on my Mac and it works, but when I run the container on my Synology, I am getting the AUTH_FAILED error. The credentials match in both environments.

So that's what I guess. And it reassures me that someone has the exact same problem, at the same time.

Either HMA has changed something, but what?

Today I tried to modify my Docker compose file and reinstall it.

I modified the line - OPENVPN_CONFIG=France.Paris.UDP to - OPENVPN_CONFIG=France.Paris.TCP.

Now, I don't get the error message: AUTH_FAILED

Best bet is to contact provider and ask them if configs need updating etc

I just opened a ticket on the HMA support page with the following message:

Hi, I have been an HMA customer for several years.

For 2 years I have a Docker torrent vpn service (Transmission-Haugene openvpn) configured with my HMA credentials, which worked fine.

Since 25/01/23, I can no longer connect to my torrent web interface.
Checking the logs, I get the message: AUTH_FAILED.

It seems that the authentication no longer works since 25/01/23.

Still, my HMA credentials work just fine with the Windows HMA app.

The config file into my torrent web interface, my credentials that worked (before 25/01/23) were:

- OPENVPN_PROVIDER=HIDEMYASS
- OPENVPN_CONFIG=France.Paris.UDP
- OPENVPN_USERNAME=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- OPENVPN_PASSWORD=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Also note that other people have had the exact same problem as me since yesterday (I created a Github thread regarding the problem with Transmission Haugene and the HMA vpn).

Questions: 
Has HMA changed anything about how to log in?
And what should I do to connect again to the HMA servers with my credentials on my torrent service?

Any updates? If HMA changed things so it can not be run in this fashion, I will need to find a new VPN provider.

I am also thinking about changing my VPN provider.
I will probably take purevpn.

I subscribed for purevpn.
I took the 24+3 month subscription.
I used a discount code that works (in France) who is: LEFIGARO
I only paid 39,52€, whereas I used to pay 72€ per year at HMA.
Now Transmission Haugene is working fine!

I hope this topic helps.

I realized that I have one VPN connection with PROTONVPN with my current subscription. I am trying to run using this script on my Synology DS920+:

This is essentially the same script I was using successfully with HMA until it recently quit working. I simply changed the values for PROVIDER, CONFIG, USERNAME and PASSWORD.

The script runs and the initialization ends with an AUTH_FAILED message. I have tried several different OPENVPN_CONFIG choices by picking file names from vpn-configs-contrib/openvpn/protonvpn/

@pkishino, any suggestions for how to debug/fix this? I got my user ID/password by logging into my ProtonMail account and going to Proton VPN to copy/paste those values.

Never mind... I figured it out. The configs listed the protonvpn directory are for Proton's core VPN servers which were not accessible from the lower subscription that I had. I bumped up to Proton Unlimited and no I can start using the above config.
