Transmission downloads owned by root:root

I've noticed that completed downloads are being saved as root:root causing import issues from my media server. This looks like a recent issue as they were previously being saved as the correct user and group.

Has anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas?

Check your pid/gid setup

This depends on your underlying system etc.. but by default the container uses root, so you need to check your logs etc at startup if it recognises the puid that you pass in, most likely you are not using the correct one and docker doesn’t understand your mapping

As I said, this has worked without issues since April until the latest update. There should be a change which broke the working setup. The logs at startup are not exactly helpful. It's just stated that transmission runs as root with UID:GID set to 0:0.

Manually adding this user and group to the docker container with docker exec 7bd1d9e8691c groupadd -g 65533 -p "$(openssl passwd -6 media)" media and docker exec 7bd1d9e8691c useradd -d /srv/media -s /bin/bash -g 65533 -u 65533 -p "$(openssl passwd -6 media)" media followed by docker compose down and then docker compose up didn't remedy the issue either.

Please show the output when showing id/group on your host.
Also, please try setting puid and pgid to 1000(default docker user) and see if that has any effect.
Also, have you tried setting GLOBAL_APPLY_PERMISSIONS to true?

My user has id of uid=1000(emk2203) gid=1000(emk2203) Gruppen=1000(emk2203),3(sys),966(docker),982(rfkill),998(wheel),65533(media).
groups gives sys docker rfkill wheel emk2203 media.

The media user has id of uid=65533(media) gid=65533(media) Gruppen=65533(media) and groups gives media.

When I try to assign puid:pgid of 1000:1000, nothing changes, transmission runs still as root.

I have tried setting the GLOBAL_APPLY_PERMISSIONS to true, but this only screws up my manually set permissions at startup, nothing more.

EDIT: It turns out that the issue was caused by a stray backup file of docker-compose.yml in my home directory. After moving it out of the way, setting puid:pgid to 65533:65533 works as expected, with the abc user in the docker container and the media user outside of the container.
