Panic when Helix is backgrounded and the shell is terminated

Summary

I had the editor sleeping/backgrounded via Ctrl-Z, then I closed shell that the editor was running in. When I did so I saw this error:

Reproduction Steps

I do this particular action all the time and this is the first time I've seen it crash like this, so I'm not sure how to reproduce it.
