Plugin system, when?

Hello there, anyone knows when is the plugin system going to be ready? I see discussions from at least 2 years ago that talk about it but apparently there is still no plugin system...

For example, I think Helix would massively benefit by having some sort of file tree and I was trying to understand how to get one inside of helix, apparently there was already a PR 2 years ago where at the end the maintainer decided to just leave and build his own editor (lol)
