How can I use (Ctrl + ,) as a keymap?

Which terminal are you using? I think that sequence needs the enhanced keyboard protocol (https://github.com/helix-editor/helix/wiki/Terminal-Support#enhanced-keyboard-protocol), otherwise the terminal only sends , when you press C-,

I don't think so, Alacritty doesn't support the kitty keyboard protocol as far as I know

I set it on wezterm... helix <space>? picks it up. But it doesn't work.

What does the log file say if you run in verbose mode? (hx -vv --log log.txt and see log.txt.) There should be a line that says "The keyboard enhancement protocol is supported in this terminal"

Wezterm just had several changes to fix the protocol implementation, you'd have to wait for next release (if it's actually working now).

This is what hx -vv --log log.txt showed:
