I should be able to open any file even ignored one. This is definitely a restriction.

you can open any file or directory you just don't get autocompletions for it.

That's true. But I need the auto-completion, it's so useful

I would suggest to not filter .gitignore files when doing o: ~/. We can achieve the same by using fuzzy filtering when typing e.g. :o ~/some_substring

Instead of having exceptions for certain directories we should less aggressively filter the file completion or make the filtering configurable(there is a pr for this)
