Can't type certain brackets anymore

I've always been able to write [,],{ and } using an external keyboard, no problem. Lately, this doesn't work anymore. The problem must be with Carnets, as the keys work perfectly fine everywhere else. I've tried using Carnets plus to solve this, but the situation is the same.

Carnets and Carnets-plus have the same components for the user interface and keyboard interaction, so it makes sense that they behave the same.
I have tried this on my test machines, and I'm unable to reproduce this issue with an external keyboard. It's going to be more difficult for me to fix this issue quickly if I cannot reproduce it, but I'll keep searching.

I'm also experiencing this issue: I'm unable to type the five characters "[]|{}". I'm using an iPad Pro 11" (3rd Gen, M1) on iPadOS 18.7.1 and a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard (German QWERTZ layout). When going into settings and switching the hardware keyboard's layout to English, typing these characters works again. Hence, I assume it might have something to do with the keyboard shortcut needed to input these characters on a German layout: It's ⌥ and 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 for "[]|{}". What I find particularly strange is that the other five symbols "¡“¶¢≠" created by ⌥ and 1, 2, 3, 4 or 0 still work without any problem. Hopefully this helps with fixing the bug :)

Thanks for the additional details. With a German keyboard layout, I can reproduce the issue as well on my external keyboard. It's even weirder: for some German layouts (not all), I can enter [] and {} but only at the beginning of the line.
I have absolutely no idea where this is coming from. ⌥ with 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 does work with other keyboards.
The code in Carnets does very little with the keyboard, leaving it to the system. But at the same time this issue only happens in Carnets. It's mindboggling.

Found it! That's an old issue in Jupyterlab: jupyterlab/jupyterlab#15778 and jupyterlab/jupyterlab#15744

There's a simple fix, which is to disable those shortcuts in jupyterlab (alt-1 to alt-9 and shift-alt-1 to shift-alt-9). It also affects french and italian users.

Update: it was a bit more complicated than that. The problem was not the shortcuts for alt-number (after all, alt-1 to alt-4 are still working, as you said). The problem was that, after mapping, Jupyter was seeing the key being typed as "alt-[", instead of "[", and mapping that to a specific command, inline-completer:next.

I now have "[]" and "{}" working with German keyboards (and presumably French keyboards also). I'm still working on "|" (which is mapped to "\", because that's where it is on a US keyboard. My goal is to push an update as quickly as possible.

Update of the update: I now have "|" working as well, and it also works on a French keyboard. It's time to upload a new version.
