Energy dashboard: Show grid import total on Electricity usage graphs #24141

I came here for a similar request, but I'm wondering if it would solve your feature request. The current energy dashboard has water and gas consumption, so I think there should also be a Grid Consumption graph to match the others. The "Electricity usage" graph is kind of a different thing, so I would think Grid Consumption would be a separate graph. Would that solve what you are after? (I find Electricity usage more interesting looking at a specific day. Looking at that graph over a long time period, I find, is a bit hard to interpret -- especially if looking for consumption outliers.) For electricity where people have solar, this graph would be net usage. (The gas and water graphs are essentially net consumption, although I doubt anyone is generating and feeding gas back to their utility...) Here's a longer discussion about this with some images as examples, but here's what my Utility shows for my daily grid usage, so something similar on the energy dashboard. As noted in the discussion, this gets more complicated when looking at costs and various and possibly daily-changing energy costs. But same applies to water and gas, I suppose. |

The linked discussion is interesting, thanks for the pointer! Upon some more thinking, I think it would be a really nice idea to calculate and display the cumulative measurements per "category" as it were. In the default Energy Dashboard, there's a section for Grid import, Grid return (both on the same configuration "card"), as well as a separate category for Solar panels and for Home battery storage (in/out). In each of those categories, you could add multiple sources, if you have multiple PV inverters/meters, multiple batteries or, as is the case in the Netherlands, 2 separate tariff periods for import and for export. All I'd like to see, is a cumulative number per source on the hover-pane in the graph. Not just a single number for all consumption, but a separate number for all grid consumption, a separate number for all PV solar consumption and a number for all PV export, and one for all battery consumption, and one for all battery export, etc.... Put simply, for every source category, separately add up and display all those (sub)totals, as well as a grand total for all export and a grand total for all import. If we then could also have an option to hide sources by category, you'd have a fantastically useful overview of everything that goes in or ouf the home...(this was an idea in the linked discussion above)... |

Currently, the "Electricity usage" bar chats show some totals when hovering:
"Total consumed", which displays how much electricity the home has consumed, including solar self consumption.
"Total returned", which shows how much electricity was exported to the grid.
I'd also like to see the "Total imported", which shows the actual import from the grid, excluding other in-home sources such as Solar panels or generators or what have you ;) Just the total amount imported from the grid, which is what people actually pay for ;)
For example: This is the view in HA 2025.2.1:

I'd like to see a bold line with the "Total imported" amount of energy purely taken from the grid.
This information is also available in the "Energy distribution" widget/card, but that's for the entire selected period, not per bar-chart. Also, it's only accurate to 1 digit, whereas the hover-pane on the bar charts is accurate to 2 digits, and makes up a better overview, in my opinion ofcourse ;)
