[Done] Request: Sound output on macOS as sensor

Hi!

I would like to request the sound output of the macOS becoming a sensor for the Companion App. Currently, it is only possible to obtain the microphone input/state as a sensor. Is there any specific reason why it is not possible wiht the output as well?

I'm not seeing any sensor showing the current sound output device, however, I do see the mic input. Is this maybe only possible on macOS Monterey? I'm running Big Sur.

I might have misunderstood your question in the first place. The thing is that I have my two studio speakers powered with a WiFi-plug, which I can turn on/off from HA. What I would like to do is automating the switches based on the chosen Output Device on my Macbook. In other words: "Turn on switch when output device = 'External Soundcard'".

Sorry I mean: it's technically possible. I'd be curious what your use case is, since right now we have "active input device" + "input is active" because microphone status is useful for automations. What information about the output device do you want to know?

See above edit for the specific use case scenario. As I already find the information about the microphone state very useful in regards to automations, the same thing would go with the Output if i had the opportunity.
