With the addition of CarPlay to HA I think there's a big potential regarding vehicle data (if at all possible): logging all data to your server (odometer, speed, RPMs, battery, tire pressure, fuel consumption, remaining fuel, GPS coordinates...) for processing. It seems it's possible, but I have not looked into it too much yet.
This has been attempted using various OBD2 readers, but none really work reliably or are affordable. The closest is the ELM327 OBD2 adapter (Bluetooth/WiFi) and some app on the smartphone, but even then, it's clumsy and data logging is not its purpose.
If CarPlay could have access to vehicle data, it could be made available, just like the companion app's device data. I think this would be a major feature of Home Assistant's CarPlay.
This could be extended to custom dashboards in CarPlay, where live values and customized stats based in the vehicle data could be shown.
