ℹ️ There were several issues of intermittent upgrade problems on Raspberry Pi 5 (see #3943). Before you report an issue, try upgrading the EEPROM bootloader first, which resolved issues for majority of users. To do so, easiest way is to use a spare SD card with Raspberry Pi Imager and follow these instructions.

15.1 no good on HP Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8500 CPU @ 3.00GHz . Please fix

I could ssh in to 15.1 for a minute, then it froze, then came up again in a loop.

I did a ha os boot-slot other and 14.2 came right back.

Is their a way to clear the 15.1 boot slot so my 14.2 version stays intact?

Were changes made on how HA detects Zigbee coordinators? I have an HA Green with both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT (all devices here) configured. After the update, Zigbee2MQTT wouldn't run at all. ZHA was semi-populating itself and complaining that the configuration was changed (accept or restore previous config window). Had to manually pull out my ZHA Skyconnect dongle and delete the integration. Zigbee2MQTT seems to work again, for now at least...

I had a similar issue.
The zigbee coordinator I use for ZHA works fine. My (USB) connection to the DSMR smart meter seems to work as well. However, for zigbee2mqtt, on the config-tab of the add-on, under serial, i had to change to port: /dev/ttyUSB0 (was USB1).

Is the USB port mapping different? Automatically corrected/detected by ZHA and DSMR, but not by Zigbee2MQTT?

Do not use /dev/ttyUSB*//dev/ttyACM* paths, as they change depending on the order the devices are plugged or probed. Instead, use links from /dev/serial/by-id/*.

HP T620 which did not work with version 15.0 still does not work with version 15.1.

Since the machine had a damaged LAN port and was working on a USB Ethernet card and I was just lazy and didn't do anything about it, I just installed HASO 15.1 on another T620. Everything started working right away. I think the problems could have been caused by the USB Ethernet card but I'm not sure.

@giannoug Theoretically it can, could you try booting with a display connected both with and without the card?

@Yabi23 Could you post lsusb information for that USB ethernet card? Or eventually try connecting it to the working T620 and see if you can reproduce the previous behavior. Otherwise, it's also possible that the faulty LAN breaks kernel initialization due to some driver changes - it might have been failing gracefully before but now it locks up proper initialization.

@sairon Doesn't seem the card to be the issue. I managed to grab a photo during the upgrade to 15.1. I seems to always hang here

After three reboots, it goes back to 14.2 and works fine

Started the update from UI (mac mini 2012) and now I just got onboarding window. Also SSH does not let me in.

I plugged keyboard and checked what's going on. ha cli is there with the banner information it says all OK. 15.1 version. But no memory of my installation. My backups cannot be found. It's like fresh install.

In that case it's not that issue, as VMs should not be affected by that. Also I don't know what change between 15.0 and 15.1 could be breaking there. Can you check what's printed in the VM console when you switch the slot to the other one?

It seems the rootfs in the other boot slot is corrupted. It might be fixed by another attempt of install (not switching slot, just running upgrade again). However, it most likely points to a lower level corruption, i.e. the drive might be going bad.

On my mini pc Intel N100 16GB RAM DDR4, this is the second time I’ve been unable to update. Versions 15.0 and 15.1 present the same issue. The system takes a long time to start up and then gets stuck in an infinite error loop, losing the internet connection. I can only access it via the terminal after that (which is a real headache). It only works again when I revert to Core 2025.3.4, Supervisor 2025.03.4, Operating System 14.2. I have no idea what’s going on.

That's it, the N900 drive is already reported in the linked issue to be bad. Following the steps to add libata.force=nolpm to cmdline.txt should remedy it.

I followed the step-by-step instructions, and it worked! However, when I turned the PC off and on again, the problem came back. There are a permanent solution?

I tried to find the cmdline.txt file for editing, as I read in some comments here, but unfortunately, I can't find it in the system and I dont know more what i need to do.

Yes, that's exactly the issue. When you're connected to the device and see the ha > line, type login and then the file can be found in /mnt/boot/cmdline.txt.

I found the cmdline.txt now! I went through the whole process, adding the command "libata.force=nolpm" , and now everything seems to be running normally. I unplugged and plugged the PC back in, and it is booting up normally. I hope it remains stable.

Steps:

1. Enter edit mode

In vi, press i to activate edit mode.

2. Edit the line to look like this:

console=tty1 libata.force=nolpm

Do not remove anything that was already there (if there are more parameters, just add libata.force=nolpm at the end of the line, separated by a space).

3. Save and exit

Press Esc to exit edit mode.

Type :wq and press Enter to save and exit.

4. Restart the system

Type reboot and press Enter.

I scoured #3943 and could not figure this out, but does the caveat about the Pi 5 not updating consistently also apply to the Home Assistant Yellow hosting a CM5?

So far I haven't seen a report of this happening on CM5. This can be related to the fact that the boot flow is a bit different (on Yellow we're using U-Boot) and that CM5 came out of factory with a newer EEPROM version than early RPi 5 models.

Tried upgrading on my Raspberry Pi 5 from 14.2 to 15.1 and was unable to get it to work. Home Assistant core kept crashing.

In the supervisor logs (ha supervisor log) I see:

I suffer from similar symptoms on a HP T 620 machine, running HASS 14.2. The update to 15.1 fails, but after three hardware reboots, the machine becomes available again and offers me the 15.1 update again.

What can I do? I'm not sure whether I should follow the "expert approach" described above.

May I hope this is resolved in 15.2 and simply wait?

So my Raspberry Pi 4 was completely fine with 15.0, this 15.1 is bricking my installation
If you have Pi 4, DO NOT INSTALL this 15.1

Raspberry Pi 5 4GB, NVMe SSD in Argon One V3 case, updated from 13.2 to 15.1 no problems. I did the EEPROM update to March 2025 beforehand, just to be sure.

Unfortunately, I just upgraded from 14.2 on my Pi 3B+ (HA OS 32bits) and it is now frozen on boot.
Green light stays on.
On HDMI output, the screen is on but black so nothing to see, and Pi not detected on network so impossible to ssh.

What are the best options? New install or the EEPROM upgrade but it seems related to Pi 5 only?

Finally I reflashed 15.1 on the SD card and restored my backups. It works.
I suppose the update process had failed the first time and the system was broken.

15.0 made my Intel NUC (D54250WYB Core i5 gen 4) completely unstable, so i had to revert back to 14.2. This one seems to work great!
