I'm working on a zigbee2mqtt extension for Homie v5

Are you planning on implementing the homie protocol from scratch in this? If you like to use the latest beta of my node-homie lib let me know if you need any adjustments. I was planning on getting this to a release stage in the near future.

zigbee2mqtt extensions are supposed to be a single file (exposing a class that extends Extension). The class has access to the "internals" of zigbee2mqtt. So their db/state, events and mqtt client etc. That said I have to implement all of the conversions somehow. I'm also working on a js library for homie conversions that I was planning on inlining temporarily and eventually add to the dependencies of zigbee2mqtt if I ever get this extension into that code base. However that lib is also in an early state. I have added the test-suite repo as a subrepo there to try to fill all of the requirements.

However, the conversion stuff in node-homie is in a much better state and it would be great if we could make a joint effort to move all of that out of node-homie so that any js library could benefit!

After writing this I realize that I need to be able to set a custom will-message in accordance to the specification, so I have to create another connection somehow. I might have to contribute that into zigbee2mqtt beforehand 😬

I haven't really updated my library to be fully compliant with the latest v5 validation / conversion requirements yet. When I started writing node-homie I had "framework" like design in mind that incorporates a lot of different functions in one library (hence also all the validation and query stuff and so on). I was long thinking of breaking it up into smaller parts to be more flexible.
so TLDR: yes, we can work together to achieve this :)
