Integration of Noise for Webcam With Sound Capturing

Modern multimedia systems often need to simulate real-world noisy environments for testing, research, or effect creation. This project aims to integrate real-time noise (audio noise and/or video noise) into a live webcam stream while simultaneously capturing microphone audio, ensuring both streams remain synchronized and stable.

Problem Statement

Most existing systems capture webcam video and microphone audio separately, and adding controlled noise requires manual post-processing. There is a lack of a simple, unified system that:
Adds visual noise to a webcam feed
Adds audio noise to microphone input
Processes both in real time
Keeps audio and video synchronized
Allows display, saving, or streaming of the final noisy output
This project aims to solve this by building an integrated real-time noise-enhanced A/V pipeline.

Objectives

• Capture real-time webcam video.
• Capture real-time microphone audio.
• Generate or load artificial noise:
• Visual noise (grain, static, blur, distortion)
• Audio noise (white noise, ambient noise, hum, wind, etc.)
• Mix noise into the live video and audio streams.
• Maintain synchronization between audio and video.
• Output the modified A/V stream to display and/or save.

Proposed Solution

The system will use a real-time processing pipeline: Video Pipeline
Capture webcam frames using OpenCV / WebRTC
Apply visual noise filters (Gaussian noise, static, pixel distortion)
Render to screen or send to output
Audio Pipeline
Capture microphone audio using PyAudio / MediaRecorder API
Mix generated noise (white noise, ambient sounds)
Output the mixed audio stream
Synchronization Layer
Use timestamps or frame counters
Ensure audio and video stay aligned
Buffer management to prevent delays
Final Output
Display noisy A/V stream live
Optionally record to file (.mp4/.wav)
Optionally stream over network
