OpenDTU-OnBattery on opendtufusionv2 no Power Grid update

Hello guys, I recently update my AllianceApps OpenDTU device with the latest OpenDTU-OnBattery and the Grid Power value is not updated. To have an update value I have to reload the page. The version that I use is compiled on a Mac with VisualStudio Code and the only edit I've done to the source code is to change the platform.io value default_envs = opendtufusionv2.

If I try to install another binary release from the official repository, the communication with the inverter is not working because the Fusion radio transmission chips are not detected BUT the Grid Power will constantly update as expected.

Is is a bug or do I am doing an error with compilation?

You are doing multiple things other than the way you should.

• Use the releases on this github Repo and upload the respective pin_mapping.json (there is a working one for your OpenDTU Fusion Board available for download from the repo).
• If you do compile your firmware yourself, you have to build the webapplication as well https://www.opendtu.solar/firmware/compile_webapp/ before you build the firmware.

I had to "decode" your info learning some concept that are probably basic for the developers but hardly understandable for an average joe installing a meter.

For anyone who should encounter the same problem this is a very generic list of things to do to install it on a Mac.

• install XCode
• install git
• open Visual Studio Code and clone the repo (I was downloading a zip and opening it with VSC)
• changing the env variable
• install yarn
• using terminal to go to the webapp directory and precompile the webapp
• finding, downloading and uploading via the web interface (Config Management > Pin mapping) the opendtu_fusion.json pin mapping

Now it seems to work perfectly.

My only question is: why there is no a Fusion binary ready to download? Is is a niche board?

It is understandable that you had to learn a bit before you could accomplish the task. However, you did, so the info provided was indeed enough 😉 This is a DIY project after all, not a consumer-ready product, so some work on your end is expected.

However, you do not need to compile a firmware yourself if you don't need customizations beyond pin_mapping.json. Use the opendtu-onbattery-generic_esp32s3_usb.bin files of the respective release. The OpenDTU Fusion Board has an ESP32S3 and uses the USB interface to output the console messages, so this is the right binary for you.

We could document this info somewhere...

I agree with you it's an opportunity to learn something. I've listed the steps I followed with the same spirit to let other users to have some extra info. Thank you for pointing me to the solution!

For the esp32s3, if I remember well, I tried to install the release binary but I was unable to communicate with HMS microinverter (sub 1 GHZ).

And now that I've cloned the repo on VSC, what should I do the next time that OpenDTU-OnBattery is updated to compile the latest version?

git pull; cd webapp; yarn build; cd ..; platformio -e ...

Again: If you do not need customizations, please download the released binaries. They do work. I use the myself. Make sure to use the correct pin_mapping.json and select the respective profile, and you are good to go.
