Gitcoin 23: Hypercerts For Nature Stewards – Results and Round Report

The results are in! The Hypercerts for Nature Stewards round on Gitcoin.

Grantees created Ecocerts. Donors showed up. Matching funds were powered by Gainforest, Ma Earth, Celo and the Hypercerts Foundation.

In this round, Gainforest lead the tests of a new way to fund local nature work through Ecocerts + Impact QF.

Invitation to discuss Hypercerts v2

Hypercerts V2 is the latest evolution of the Hypercerts protocol, designed to improve scalability, cross-application interoperability, and simplicity in funding and rewarding positive impact. This version introduces key architectural changes, including:

• Introduction of a cross-app identifier for organizations.
• Use of a separate registry for the metadata, which enables non-tokenized hypercerts.
• A new token standard based on ERC20s or standard ERC1155.

These enhancements make Hypercerts V2 more composable within the broader Ethereum ecosystem, improving usability and efficiency.

The key principle for this evolution is simplicity. We ask: What is the simplest, yet extensible, implementation of hypercerts?
