First, I'd recommend using open-sourced models and pre-trained checkpoints to run inference. This allows you to see awesome results without any training costs, and will help you figure out which directions you personally prefer.
If you're ready to move on to re-implementation or adaptation, most papers detail their computational requirements in the experiment section. Maybe you can start with training-free methods or those lightweight ones based on their training setups.
