[Feature] Configure map default location in System Settings

I have searched the existing feature requests to make sure this is not a duplicate request.

The feature

I would like the default starting location of the map on web to instead of being /map#1.01/0/0, it can be arbitrarily configured in the system settings panel.

/admin/system-settings?isOpen=location+map

This would apply to both the /map view, as well as the "Assign Location" dialog:

Just being able to write a string like 12/52.08/4.31 would already center the starting location around a single city

All my photos are in the same area, it doesn't make sens to start form a world view and have to zoom in every time. Maybe instead of having to manually define a default location, there could be a setting to automatically zoom to the extent of content in the map?

Select the map on the right, zoom in on China to center it, and click the button to fix its configuration.

Interesting finding.

Do you know if doing this in maptiler is setting the default camera position of the style, and then immich is actually following it?

That might indeed be a good workaround for those technical enough to have their own map provider.

I still think there should be some option for those that only have photos on a limited scope, like the other commenter said.

It seems so. After using this method, the map on the web client directly displays with the specific view I set.
But the mobile client cannot use it. I agree it is good to have native support for this :)

I like how PhotoPrism handles it. It will try to zoom to a view that can see all photos. Here is the official demo of PhotoPrism.

I can confirm, adding the following properties to the style.json

Converts the starting URL of the Map button to {hostname}/map#11.3/40.73/-74/20.8/17.5
