iOS app forgets selected albums to back up (seems like a bug) #16673

This is a known limitation, as we don’t query empty albums on the device as it is causing an issue with displaying other albums. We will think of a workaround |

Just wanted to add in that I’m having this issue as well. It used to work and Immich would hold onto albums whether they were empty or not but it seems like recent updates removed that feature. I very much liked Immich keeping track of the empty albums because it made it easy to just organize my photos into albums in the iOS app and have Immich pick them up and back them up into the matching album on Immich. Please bring this back if possible. |

Same here on Android. My current solution: Creating a black-image with date 1970 and copy this into all the album-folders on the phone, that it will be displayed at the very end. This way, there is always one photo and the albums won't get deselected. |

Background: I'm in what I would call a long running transition into Immich. I'm backup up all new pictures while also working through years of pictures of mixed quality, weeding out the bad stuff and then transferring in batches on my laptop.
Because of this, I don't let Immich app back up from Recents (yet), but instead from a specific folder that I transfer desired photos to.
This is how it looks in the app when there are where are items to back up / backed up in the folder called Immich. This is as expected:

However, once the items have been backed up, sometimes I delete them entirely from the phone. This results in an empty Immich folder. This is the issue: Next time I start the app, it has now forgotten my configuration.

This is not just a temporary UI state thing, it doesn't recover once I add items in to the folder again. I have to select the folder again.
App version 1.129.0
