How to move Immich’s storage on Umbrel Home Server to external drive?

I have Immich Server backing up my iPad images on Umbrel Home Server. It’s saving them to umbrels internal drive which is filling up fast. Is there a way to move the storage from the Umbrel Home Server’s internal drive to an external drive connected via it’s USB ports?

Earlier I put in a feature request for an option to do exactly this and they closed the request within 30 seconds 🤷🏼‍♂️.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can still reply to the old thread. However this question should be directed towards the Umbrel help, as this is not Immich related we will not be able to help. Immich will save the files wherever UPLOAD_LOCATION is set to

I ended up asking XAI’s Grok 3 and it gave me exact instructions on how to modify the docker-compose.yml file, and I successfully moved the storage to an external drive. It’s amazing how helpful AI can be.
