I have searched the existing feature requests, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate request.
The feature
Immich already supports manual stacks and plans to add an auto‑burst feature. Photographers who import RAW + JPEG/HEIF pairs or export multiple developed variants of one RAW need a way to keep those versions together inside a burst stack. Adding nested / tagged stacks would solve that without cluttering the timeline.
Problem Statement
Use‑Cases
RAW + JPEG Pairing – Collapse .RAW + .JPG into one thumbnail; choose which is the “primary”. Auto Use of JPG for conversion and showing. A switching to the RAW Version would not be really need, more like a shadow version?
Wishes
Would be nice to have an proper API Endpoint for that
Grouping of multiple Variants could be possible.
No mix up of different "Stack-Group" Variants.
Workaround
I love the stacking for too many shots of a moment to not clutter my timeline. If i also import my RAW/JPEG Photos it does not work this way. Right now I am thinking to overwrite the included preview of the raw file with the "jpeg" one. This will result and very "BIG" images. 60MB for RAW and 10MB for JPEG. I am not sure if this is useful for immich?
