In Settings > Photo Grid, there are these three settings:

The observed behavior for Automatic mode is somewhat unexpected to me, and per mertalev in the Discord:
Of course, many of us come from Google Photos, and I'm no exception, but I much prefer their behavior. The two applications both support various zoom levels. However, they define zoom levels somewhat differently. Let me elaborate for precision.
Google photos defines its 4 zoom levels as the following.
Immich, however, doesn't actually "zoom" in quite the same way. It instead changes the "Asset per row" setting upon pinching in the timeline (fun fact, I'm discovering this right now when trying to make sure I have my facts right!).
It shows the same view, just with a different number of assets (2-6) per row.
My proposed update to the Automatic setting would be to somewhat copy Google's behavior where the furthest out zoom level would display in Month mode, but by Month-Day when zoomed in slightly in the timeline, and maybe even by Time Range if zoomed in somewhat further and there are a high volume of photos on a particular day.
The threshold for when to switch between Month and Month-Day could be adjusted by a setting, but either way, I would really like if Automatic switched between Month and Month-Day according to zoom level (tiles per row).
nb: Obviously, none of this would affect static Month/Month-Day choices. Month mode should still show by Month at any zoom level/asset-per-row setting. This is just a suggested behavior change to Automatic mode.
