[Feature] Ability to download images with stripped metadata

I have searched the existing feature requests, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate request.

The feature

It would be nice to have a way of downloading the images and stripping metadata like GPS coordinates before. This could be a second button for example.

You can just right click the preview image and hit "save as", that'll get you a version without any metadata.

That would download the preview Image, which does not have the full resolution, right?

I closed it because I gave you a solution. If you want full size previews you can enable that in https://my.immich.app/admin/system-settings?isOpen=image+fullsize-settings.

That's not a solution, it's a workaround. It will mean more network load when not downloading. Should i go to the settings every time I want to download a picture?

I agree with @CommanderRedYT — there’s an important usability and privacy issue here.

Currently, to allow mass downloading from a public share, users must enable the “Share metadata (EXIF)” option. This creates an unintended side effect: users who want to allow downloads might unknowingly expose sensitive EXIF data (like GPS coordinates), simply because both settings are bundled together.

This is problematic for less technical users — they might keep the EXIF sharing enabled just to allow downloads, not realizing they’re also potentially revealing personal data like home locations.

This coupling of “download permission” and “metadata sharing” should be reconsidered.
