[Feature] Tag Links | Tags with Multiple Names | Alternate Names for Tags

I have searched the existing feature requests, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate request.

The feature

I want to be able to link tags to another tag. At times I encounter different ways to name things: a character having a name, and a nickname; a noun that has multiple synonyms; two related subjects. Most often times, synonyms.

Basically say if I have two tags: fandom ; verse ; parody. I want two of them to just link to one tag rather than exist individually.
I know I could just add the 3 of them all at once, but in a situation where there are tons of synonyms, Its difficult to remember all of them. Id like to just choose one, and when searching that single tag, it redirects to the "original"/main tag.

One way to think about it is tags with multiple alternate names

Can you not cover this with nested tags? I don't think we want to complicate the tagging system even further.

I guess... but that would be pretty messy no?

Say I have a bunch of photos in the US with its states in nested:

US/texas
US/california
Etc...

The problem comes when there is multiple ways to write the name "US"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing what you meant by using nests is this:

USA/US/texas
US/texas
US/united states/texas

For each alternate name I'd have to create one more tag for the state. I'd rather it just be:

USA/texas
united states -> USA
US -> USA

To be honest, after some thinking, I'm not sure if I'm using the right tool for the job. I'm guessing immich uses metadata tags for the tagging system. I might be better off using a self-hosted image board or something. Especially for something like this:

parody/undertale
verse -> parody
fandom -> parody

An image board tagging system would work but it wouldn't have backups, albums, and an android app that I immich does.

That's just a matter of discipline and I think is always a 'problem' with this kind of system. EXIF/XMP data has no way to express the sort of links like you describe, which means data like this would be locked into Immich and we'd rather not do that.

Too bad I guess. I'll see if I can work around it then.
