The feature

This thread aggregates various requests for (configurable) indicators on thumbnails in the timeline, including (but not limited to) #1621, #6190, #8027, #17011, #20980.

Just adding the use case I would like to see this implemented for: I did set up a completely new Immich instance days ago and imported a few thousand pictures and videos. Totally unsorted. Now I have created a dozen albums that I want to sort the photos into. I sorted a few hundred already, but it gets quite confusing, because I'm not sure which ones I've already sorted. Perhaps something like a synthetic "Unsorted" album that contains all pictures not added to a real album? It might make sense to have the possibility to manually exclude assets from that synthetic album, basically marking them as "not sorted, but don't care", for one-off things.

Just having an indicator would help already, but always having to scroll through thousands of assets is time consuming. Having the ability to shrink the list on the go would be super nice for completely new instances. So my request is not exactly like the one described in this feature request issue, but kinda related I think. Just want it to bring to your attention - if you think that is a useful feature on its own I can also create a dedicated issue for it.
