I have searched the existing feature requests, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate request.
The feature
Many iPhone users may have 10s -100s of thousands of photos in stored in iCloud.
The only automatically populated album on the iPhone is the “recents” album but it also contains every photo ever taken including those which are not at all recent.
It would be amazing to have the ability to truncate this album and ignore all images taken more than X days ago or before X date.
This should speed up syncs (less files being checked), reduce the hash database size, and improve first time use experience (no need to download years of old iCloud Photos and hash them).
For users that want all their photos they could still request all photos in recents be uploaded. And for technical users who have taken an iCloud Takeout export of their library and added it directly to Immich they would not need to do a full sync.
Somewhat related is that the new beta timeline requires me to hash the 132k photos in my recents which seems like it will take a few weeks to complete. For new users this isn’t ideal.
