Missing Feature / Workflow (select / mark photos while beeing able to switch between overview and single photo view)

While I love immich quite a lot there is one feature I miss a lot. It is about selecting a group of photos while having the ability to toggle between overview and single photo.

Well - let me first of explain the challenge / the pain point It is about choosing the best photos for an album or a slide show. To be efficient it is important to be able to use an overview screen to select or deselect photos where it is quite obvious if they will go in and out. But then there are quite often photos where for example 5 photos are quite similar and you like to keep only one (the best one) and you need to zoom in and compare those 5 photos in detail.

For sure the workflow could be quite different for example using the star rating but the star rating only works for your own photos not for shared photos.

By the way ......it would be even better to have a workflow which is designed to work in a group where for example each group member has the ability to choose the photos which should go in and then there should be a way to show all photos from that group where at least one member choose to have a particular photo "in". Maybe a 2nd option might be useful to choose photos which should not be "in".

So far I am downloading all photos and use OS tools / apps to basically do it all offline.

I am wondering if there are immich who struggle with the same task and if there might be feature in the future where this works. By the way .....while I decided once to switch from photoprism to immich and I never did regret that step they allow to select photos and switch between those 2 views (single photo / overview) quite easily.

I'm not sure I follow entirely. Can't you do this by adding the assets to a (temporary) album?

Yes you can add them to a (temporary) album but once you selected the first photo in the overview view you are not able to view single photos. It is all about efficiency. If you have like 500 photos and you like to select the best ones you need to compare some photos side by side and zoom all in but if you choose only single photos it will take forever. I mean there always will be photos where is is easy and you like to quickly select photos in the overview view. It is all about switching between views (overview vs single photos) while keeping the selection.

This app was actually built to curate photos before they get imported to immich but the problem they try to solve is my problem / challenge (in my case all photos get imported from the various smartphone without any filter and i need to curate them inside immich or export them first and then use a tool like riffle
