Upgrading PostgreSQL to newer version

When I first installed Immich, I used the pre-made compose file, which included a PostgreSQL 14 container. With PostgreSQL 14 going end of life at the end of 2026 (and me generally preferring to run up-to-date versions of software), I wanted to see how to upgrade from PostgreSQL 14 to a newer version, ideally the latest - PostgreSQL 18.

Is there a recommended procedure for performing this upgrade? Is it possible to go directly from Posgres 14 to 18, or do I have to hop through them version by version?

We are planning to have a proper migration to pg18 soon. So it’s better to wait until then
