The feature
Use case
This is similar to other request but i believe unique. Families sharing an Immich instance want a Google Photos-like experience: a shared family album where all members can contribute photos, and those photos appear naturally in each member's personal timeline and memories — without requiring full partner sharing (which shares everything).
Current behavior
Shared albums support editor roles, so members can upload ✅
However, shared album photos do not appear in the contributor's or viewer's personal timeline ❌
Shared album photos are excluded from Memories, search, and the map view for non-owners ❌
Partner sharing resolves this but shares the entire library — there is no way to share selectively by album ❌
Proposed solution
Allow users to opt-in to including a shared album in their personal timeline and Memories. This could be implemented as a per-album toggle: "Show in my timeline" — similar to how Google Photos handles shared albums. No duplication of assets would be needed; it would be a virtual inclusion.
Why this matters
This is one of the most common pain points for families migrating from Google Photos. The workarounds (dedicated family account, full partner sharing) all involve significant tradeoffs. A simple "show in timeline" toggle on shared albums would resolve the majority of family use cases cleanly.
