Link GPS with colour-ring data through shared identifiers

I want to figure out if we can crosslink the colour-ringing with the GPS-tracking datasets by having either a shared metal ring (#241) or colour-ring for birds that appear in both. The colour rings has some variation in the way it is written (with/without ., with/without B-). I want to make sure we write them the same way.

@EricStienen do you know of a GPS-tagged bird that also appears in the CR-Birding dataset?

Most of them do, only the Neeltje Jans birds do not since they wear Dutch rings. See colour ring codes in the metadata of the various GPS datasets. But as mentioned before, this does not make much sense because there are only very very few ring readings compared to GPS-fixes (most likely less than 0.01%!)

Do you have an example of one with a confirmed observation before 2025? I can’t seem to find any.
