Failed to link subscription on startup: not implemented: SHOW SUBSCRIPTIONS

I'm getting the following error when trying to connect Kapacitor to InfluxDB (both running as Docker containers). When I disable subscriptions explicitly it seems to work, but why are subscriptions not working?

InfluxDB version: 2.7
Kapacitor version: 1.6

v2 doesn't have the subscription API currently (?), according to another post I found ... disable subscriptions in the influxdb section with

disable-subscriptions = true

Just learned about kapacitor for the first time this morning and tried a minimal setup with docker. The provided examples use Influx 1.8 and as soon as I switch to 2.x I get the same error that OP experienced.

Is this a deprecated project? I am very surprised that kapacitor is meant to be used with influxdb, but it seems like current influxdb and current kapacitor can't talk to each other.
