Ubuntu Server into Terminal

Is it possible to launch an Ubuntu Server VM directly into a Terminal instance by calling VirtualBuddy?

(potential alternative question: how do I scroll in an Ubuntu Server VM?)

not necessarily resolved, but ssh is fine (I don't really need to see all startup checks) - i do need to do the occasional fsck /dev/<errorDir> fix after my computer falls asleep without closing the VM though.
