Filtering panels to accommodate OR not just AND (for multi-variable filtering)

Feature description

We have a lot of users that like to do exploratory analysis using these apps, but they are unable to filter using more than one variable as an 'OR'. For example if you wanted to filter AE tables on Toxicity grades 3 or 5 it is fine as this is contained within a single variable and you can use the required checkboxes within the filtering UI panel for this variable. However, if you wanted to look at AEs that had grade 5 OR were discontinued from treatment it is not possible (despite these variable being already in ADAE) without creating another variable internally for the app to then absorb as another variable, so then this becomes very much less exploratory for the user as the developer has to hardcode in all such derived variables. It would be great to see some enhancements here to really make this much more user friendly for those that like to explore such subsets.

Hi @jenko1979 I realized we didn't comment on this issue when I was checking the backlog of notifications. Apologies.

An example on how much work is currently required for the app developer would be helpful (an app without such a filter and an app with such a filter). Although I already see the value of the enhancement even if it doesn't involve lot of code on the app developer. The developer might be busy and the user must then wait until they can explore one "OR filter" and if they need to explore a different one they will need to wait again.

About how to implement this I think this would require transforming a UI to R code to be used as a filter.
This could work as a widget that is added per dataset.

Would your users want to create an "OR filter" involving with multiple datasets, for example ADTTE and ADSL?

Hi, what is happening currently is the developer is having to 'derive' their own variables inside the app code which encapsulate the 'OR' into them (for example action taken is discontinued for any of the 3 active treatments). Its not a huge effort but limits exploration. What we have done internally is now created a transformator for this so we now have a UI where the user can build their own 'OR' filters (they can choose which datasets these are required to be coming from as well (e.g ADSL and ADAE). There was talk that maybe this transformator could be shared, i think Peyman Eshghi is involved in this on an external level so its something he may bring to the wider Teal community forums.
